The IIT JEE is an engineering entrance exam to seek admission to the country’s prestigious technological institutions – IITs. The IIT JEE is conducted in two phases every year. The first phase of IIT JEE is JEE Main, and the second phase is JEE Advanced. Candidates who qualified in JEE Main will be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced, which means it is not possible to apply for JEE Advanced directly without passing the first phase. However, it is exempted for foreign candidates as they need not attempt JEE Main.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the JEE Main, and the seven zonal IITs conduct JEE Advanced. Under the guidance of JAB (the Joint Admission Board), the 7 IITs – IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee conduct the JEE Advanced on a rotational basis. IIT Guwahati is the exam conducting authority for JEE Advanced 2023. IIT Guwahati has already released the dates for JEE Advanced registration 2023. The registration is scheduled to commence on 30 April 2023. Candidates can visit the official website to get complete details about the registration process.
For IIT JEE, there are specified eligibility criteria for both phases of the examination. Candidates who have completed Class 12 or are studying in Class 12 in the current academic year are eligible to apply for JEE Main, subject to the eligibility criteria prescribed by the NTA. The JEE Main will be conducted in two sessions, and the students can attempt both or only one session. The best of all the scores in the attempted sessions will be considered for the students who appeared for both sessions. The top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main exam will be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced, which means only these candidates can register for JEE Advanced.
Apart from the above criteria, i.e., to be in the top 2,50,000 list in the JEE Main results, candidates must fulfil other criteria to be eligible for JEE Advanced. The exam conducting body (IIT Guwahati) has announced the JEE Advanced eligibility criteria 2023 for JEE Advanced 2023. Before applying for the JEE Advanced, one should carefully read the eligibility criteria published on the official website. This will help them fill out the application form correctly and be aware of all the rules and regulations. Candidates can apply for JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in consecutive years.
As mentioned earlier, foreign national candidates who have completed or are studying in India or abroad at Class 12 level or equivalent when registering for JEE Advanced are not required to write or qualify for JEE Main. These candidates may register directly for JEE Advanced, subject to the other eligibility criteria prescribed by the exam conducting authority. They are exempted from the ambit of reservation of seats under the reserved categories, such as SC, ST, OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS and PwD/sub-categories. Also, it is important to note that there are no separate female supernumerary seats or sub-categories in the foreign national supernumerary seats.
